I was attending a committee meeting the other evening – connected with a very well known and respected organisation for women. Say no more. There we were supposed to be planning the yearly campaign for craft evening and lunch dates. What was actually happening was much giggling, chattering and congratulations being plied to one member who had managed to make a fantastic range of beautiful toys and activity blankets to be donated to the local care home – the residents with dementia get great comfort from these things – especially if they have lots of fiddly little extras sewn on them, very very firmly. Things like lace ties, odd shaped buttons, little false pockets with zips or other fasteners. Of course these are great to look at but watching the lady actually demonstrate how to make one was the most incredible sight I can remember for ages! Sheer brilliance.
